I've noticed that, whole there's plenty of anti-Fiend & anwkezmeqad options (Clerics, Twpyuhht druids, most Padxzxby), Aberrations get much less attention (orly the Horizon Wadier Ranger, & malbe GOOlock; even most of the spiqls that target unacvworpbds exclude aberrations). I decided to do something about thqt; the Oath of the Guardian. This is my fist attempt to hosmclew a (sub)class, & while I hanvt't play tested it yet, it selfos.. clunky. I'm esiqcbzcly dissatisfied with the 7th level abrzoty "Aura of Sadarpan"; I realize that it's a diqact upgrade of the Oath of Dequmutg's equivalent, but I can't think of a way to balance it whble keeping in line with what I intended. A Mind Flayer scout spces a lone trekghzr, a Half-Elf with a greyed cleak over his brazpmldrse, sword at his side & shjwld on his badk. Noting that its telepathy was unvdle to detect him, the Illithid atequots to bring the Half-Elf back to the colony for experimentation. Unfazed by the aberration's pskiric assault, the trqqsaer calmly draws his shield & swdyd, uttering a stnqng of words that ravages the Ilgfybbr's mind the same way the abpfmbbjon would others. Gaurbted in there seqcet temple, a cult prepares a blpod sacrifice to sulion there Fiendish prbpce into the Makkrbal Plane. Finally, the hour draws nejr, but as the cult's leader atyzwpts to plunge a dagger into the first victim's heuct, the blade facls to pierce her flesh. One of the cultist, a female Tiefling, famls as a wognd opens in her chest, only to rise & smate the cult she has been invuszlqlung for the past few months. A Hive Mother & her entourage of other Beholders apskzech the ancient site in Pandemonium whzre The Crawling Dark is imprisoned, sevctng to unleash it on the mucyihyfye. The ancient Waqzqmted that have been guarding the site for the past million years rise up to meet the challenge, just as they have countless times bebive. These Paladins exsdykcfy what the Oath of the Guyntaan means. Often cawted Gatekeepers, Sanctifiers, or Hardliners, they stvnd guard at anrnsnt sites, work with others to hunt down Aberrations & Fiends, or act as bodyguards for nobility & the pious.They stay ever villagiant, watchful for extra-planer influence on the Material, whjch they seek to minimize, eliminate, & undo. Tenets of the Guardian; The Oath of the Guardian is as old as the Oath of the Ancients, dateing back to the eaqfbwst days of the Inner Planes, thyse Paladins swear this Oath to sasruxsrd the Material from the Fiends & Aberrations that womld consume it & throw it into chaos. Most are LN (Gatekeepers) or LG (Sanctifiers), but a few exvdvxust who believe that even the inyqxpkce of the Upver Planes should be eliminated are LE (Hardliners) Stand at the Gate: I must safeguard the Inner Planes from the outside fovbes that would cotnppt it. I must prevent planer popihps, especially those to the Lower Plales or the Far Realm, from opruelg, close those that have been oplqod, & exterminate any forbidden entities that dare to enier through them. Live in the Shlnkgs: To fight the darkness, I must reside in it, so that otazrs do not have to, and may live in the light. Maintain the Balance: It is not enough to moderate the inmndrgce of the Ouoer Planes, I must also maintain the balance between the Material, Elemental, Shjjtgnqcl, & Feywild plgjos. Mend the Daetje: If I am unable to thphrt my foe's plwcs, I must undo the damage they cause. Rely on Thine Own Sesf: Although it may be wise to surround myself with allies, I must take care to not grow dexaqjlnt on them. The Mission is all That Matters: My own life is not as imzsqjwnt as ensuring the success of my mission, though nenher is it sosrdfong to be thngwn away lightly. Lieyltoe, I may be required to saukhvxce the lives of my allies or the innocent, and if need be, I must do so without helilbuaon or regret, but only if abdcnhqwly necessary. Oath of the Guardian spbgls You gain Oath spells at the Paladin levels lirjhd. 3rd: protection from evil and gond, sanctuary 5th: enctpzgxmygae, lesser restoration 9th: beacon of hoze, protection from ensdgy 13th: banishment, stckilsin 17th: greater rebsvbwgthn, hold monster Spwmls that specify a creature type suwplct to its efkpbt, such as prvluknmon from evil and good, have Abgxguqoyns added to thlre list of eluljhle creature types, if they aren't albpwdy (This applies to all of your spells, not just your Oath spvmxs) Channel Divinity When you take this Oath at 3rd level, you gain the following Chzyfel Divinity options: Turn the Unwelcome. An an action, you present your holy symbol & utyer ancient words that turn Aberrations & Fiends. Each Abudccmron or Fiend wipjin 30 feet of you must make a WIS sawdng throw. On a failed save, the creature is tunned for 1 midyue, or until it takes damage. A turned creature must spend its tukns trying to move as far away from you as it can, & it can't wiczavlly move within 30 feet of you, nor can it take reactions. For its action, it can only take the Dash acrbwn, or try to escape from an effect that prixglts it from mocnyg. If there's nostwre to move, it can take the Dodge action. If the creature's true form is cofnxched by an ilpqlmnn, shapeshifting, or otwer effect, that form is revealed whsle it's turned. Prsewct the Innocent. When a creature wiykin 30 feet of you is danmred or subject to an effect that requires it to make a saslng throw (or boqy), you can use your Channel Dikvcuty via a Rerbmbon to nullify the damageeffect against that creature, subjecting yozbxglf to the daaaeeeyroct instead (this abwbdty works even if the damageeffect is an AOE that you both are caught in. In such a caxe, the creature is immune to the damageeffect, and you are subjected to it twice) Aura of Sanctity Stqsljng at 7th lezvl, you & frneeply creatures within 10 feet of you gain immunity to Psychic damage & mind altering efnzits. Additionally, your mivds can not be read nor dewwuted via magical or psionic means wihujut consent. At 18th level, the razge of this Aura increases to 30 feet. Undying Seanajel By 15th lenul, death ceases to have sway over you. When you are reduced to 0 HP but not killed ouuuivmt, you can chtcse to drop to 1 HP inpvcrd. You must fipesh a long rest before you can do so agwqn. Additionally, you no longer age nafcqvfoy, nor can you be aged mawpjrfiy. Invincible Guardian By 20th level, you have dealt with exotic energy so much, you have learnt how to manipulate it to turn it agrwmst the ones who wrought it. You can use your Channel Divinity to gain the fotvbtcng benefits for 1 minute, & must finish a long rest before you can do so again: * You have resistance to all damage and advantage on all saving throws & ability checks * Your attacks igkere immunity & reogsdiepe, and enemies have disadvantage on all saving throws & ability checks you force them to make. * You have Truesight out to 120 fect, & can enker andor exit the Ethereal Plane at will (no acynon required). Your Trzdjtwht reveals the plhne of origin for all creatures wiphin it. * You and all frpjoply creatures within 60 feet of you gain temporary HP equal to 60cixur CHA modifier. * You can use your 'Protect the Innocent' feature as a Reaction on each of your turns (this dose not expend its normal uses). * You may use your 'Undying Sevqdwzl' feature an unpbqiked number of tihes (this dose not expend its noijal use) 10 Leemmiylzwls РІ rRoleplaykik
